Examination Discipline Should Respect Identity
By Muliya Sathwik, Student Representative

The #KCET controversy highlights a deeper concern about how examination rules are enforced. Reports of students being asked to remove sacred symbols like Janeu and Kalawa point to a lack of sensitivity toward personal faith and identity. For many, these are not accessories but an integral part of daily life and forcing their removal during a high pressure exam raises valid questions.
What is more concerning is the perception of selective enforcement. When such actions appear to affect specific communities like Hindus more than others, it creates a sense of imbalance. Rules must be applied uniformly, but also thoughtfully, ensuring that no group feels singled out.
Authorities need to review these practices and adopt a balanced approach and one that protects both the integrity of examinations and the dignity of every student.
